Can F-1 Visa Students Still Use CPT in 2026? What You Need to Know

What is CPT, and who can authorize it?
CPT is a practical-training category described for certain F-1 students in 8 CFR Part 214. Study in the States is the Department of Homeland Security student portal for those questions.
CPT is not a stamp Alpha can add. It is not a default feature of every pilot program. Availability depends on the institution, the program listed on the I-20, and the rule in force when you apply.
Who issues the I-20, and what does Alpha do?
The I-20 comes from a school certified in SEVP. Alpha Aviation is a consultancy: it advises on training plans and accompanies students from Latin America. Alpha Flight Academy delivers the flying under FAA 14 CFR Part 61. Public Alpha materials do not state that either company is the I-20 issuer or that they authorize CPT. If that is not documented for you, treat it as unknown and ask admissions in writing.
SEVP-listed flight training providers often operate under Part 141 or Part 142. A Part 61 school is not, by itself, proof that F-1/CPT applies there. Mixing those facts is how students get the wrong visa plan.
Has CPT changed in 2026?
